World class product and materials hub will open second studio this autumn—dedicated solely to supporting Scotland's Architects and Designers

Material Source Studio Scotland will offer the country’s built environment professionals an inspirational experience unlike any other. A space to view and take away samples from industry-leading commercial interior brands; a place to attend events on hot sector topics; and a destination for work, collaboration, and socialising with like-minded creatives.

Following the success of Material Source Studio in Manchester, the inspirational brand has chosen Glasgow, Scotland, for its second site. Set to open its doors in mid-September on Glasgow’s West George Street, co-founders Darren Clanford and Michael Rogan will transfer the format of the North West Studio to the heart of the Scottish city – in direct response to ongoing conversations with the region’s architecture, design and property community.

“The most exciting thing for us is that it’s clear from the conversations we’ve had there is a real appetite amongst Scotland’s architecture and design community for what we do”, comments Darren Clanford, co-founder, and creative director, Material Source. “We’ve always said that the real magic happens when you bring people together, and the Material Source Studio concept only works when this is the case. And so, to see the excitement around Material Source Studio Scotland already starting to build, ahead of our opening in the autumn, we couldn’t be more grateful and driven to offering you – the community – a useful, beautiful space that can be whatever you want it to be.”

With this point in mind, Material Source Studio has been created as a flexible hub of inspiration. Visitors to the space will be met with ever-changing product and material installations from 25+ industry-leading commercial interiors brands – the majority of which were founding partners in the Manchester Studio and saw the value in investing in the local architecture and design community there; a roster of seminar events on topics ranging from neurodiversity through to sustainability; partner events from lunch & learns to CPDs; and gallery exhibits on themes such as biomaterials and carbon capturing surface design. In addition, architects and designers are invited to work, meet, and collaborate in the space – “there’s something for everyone”, adds Darren, “Material Source Studio is a place to come and be inspired, hopefully learn something new, and have fun along the way.”

Material Source launched 5 years ago as an online magazine dedicated to championing those making a difference to the built environment through sharing inspiring ar:cles, interviews, and features on, and for, the global architecture and design community. The longer-term plan was always to launch a physical Studio, and in November 2021, the first Material Source Studio opened its doors in Manchester. It has since received thousands of visitors from hundreds of architecture and design practices, developers, property professionals, and end users, plus students from surrounding universities and colleges.

“When we first discussed opening a second Material Source Studio, Glasgow was the obvious choice for me”, comments Michael, co-founder, and opera:ons director, Material Source Studio. “The city has a strong sense of character – a confidence, if you like – that’s similar in many ways to Manchester.”

Darren adds, “Material Source Studio Scotland will do exactly as it says – it’s an inspirational space that truly celebrates the entire architecture and design community of the country. It was created for you, to be used by you. In whatever way that suits you best. The team can’t wait to welcome you through our doors.”
